Roger Perrinjaquet invents a novel kitchen appliance – a hand-held blender. The fact that his device can be used directly in the container in which the food is being prepared is the key advantage of his invention over conventional food processors. The new appliance does away with the time-consuming and messy transfer of food from one container to another. Roger Perrinjaquet calls it "bamix®", an abbreviation of the French expression for beating and mixing ("battre et mixer").
